With the Speed of Light

Dinner is almost ready. Please feel free to sit at the table and enjoy the evening. We will light the candles for you.

The candles take the schematic forms of oil rigs, clouds, pipelines, pills, transmission towers, brains, and other structures. Think about moments when different infrastructures overlap, transform into one another, or, like here, literally melt into one another. The compression of different scales is at the centre of tonight’s dinner table: the domestic and the planetary, the bodily and the industrial, the intimate and the infrastructural.

On this website, you can find a video of the diorama and experience it from multiple perspectives. One is a tracking camera, triggered by the moving light of the candle flames and the movement of liquids. The other is an endoscopic gaze, usually used to explore the insides of the body and industrial objects, now moving through the inner landscape of the diorama. It becomes the gaze of its moving parts.

The duration of this installation is determined by the candles: it lasts as long as they take to burn down to the end.

Guided tours

Alongside the diorama, four invited participants – Iryna Loskot, Olexii Minko, Medina Bazargali, Mark Cinkevich – offer guided tours that approach its themes from different perspectives. Rather than offering a single interpretation, the tours open up different routes through the questions of infrastructure, movement, bodies and scale.
